Salvaging your used candle jars

You have just finished your favourite Scent Room Candle and wanting to reuse the jar, well here are a few steps to help you remove the last bits of pesky wax.

1st Method - Double Boiling

  • Simply place the candle jar in a bowl set over a pot of barely simmering water, this ensures the wax melts without the jar getting dangerously hot. Make sure no water gets inside the jar at any point.

  • Once the wax melts be sure to pure it into something it can cool in then be thrown into the rubbish. At no time should wax be poured down the plug hole as it can harden and clog your pipes.

*Be cautious as some candle jars paint finish may not be able to withstand hot or warm water, the paint may strip off leaving you with a patchy jar.

2nd Method - Freezing

  • This is great for thick glass jars! If you have a few jars to clean out and some extra freezer space this will work perfectly. You simply place the jar into the freezer until the leftover wax is frozen, then use a butten knife to pop the frozen wax out of the jar.

  • To make thinkgs easier you can try breaking the wax up a little before you freeze it, so it pops out easier once it is frozen.

Once you have used either method you can simply use soap and water to wash out the jar but do ensure it is throughly dry. You may even opt to wipe it out with isopropol alcohol if you have it for that extra shine. The jar is then ready for your own creations!!
